FSC PRINCIPLES AND CRITERIA
Forest management shall comply with all nationally ratified laws, regulations and international treaties, as well as applicable conventions and agreements.
The legal and customary rights of Indigenous Peoples regarding the ownership, use, and management of land and resources affected by forest management activities shall be identified and supported.
Forest management shall maintain or improve the long-term economic, social and environmental benefits of forest products and services.
The certificate holder shall have a management plan in accordance with its policies and objectives, and commensurate with the scale, intensity and risk of its forest management activities.
High Conservation Values (HCVs) shall be maintained and improved through preventive actions and strategies, and the performance of regular monitoring will be demonstrated.
The Certificate holder shall maintain or improve the social and economic welfare of workers.
Forest management shall contribute to the maintenance or improvement of the social and economic well-being of local communities.
The certificate holder shall maintain, conserve or restore ecosystem services and environmental values; and shall avoid, remediate or mitigate negative environmental impacts.
It shall be demonstrated that progress towards meeting objectives is monitored and evaluated in order to implement adaptive management.
All FSC Principles and Criteria must be met, and economically viable, environmentally appropriate, and socially beneficial forest management must be implemented.
