Energy Saving Certificates (Certificados de ahorro energético, CAEs) are electronic documents issued by the competent authority in each autonomous community and recorded in the corresponding registry.
They certify the annual energy savings achieved by an energy efficiency measure. They can be bought and sold, and their value is determined on the market..
1 CAE = 1 kWh of final annual energy savings.
All sectors* (primary, secondary, and service, as well as individuals):
*Energy savings from international ships, energy harvesting, and the energy conversion sector are excluded.
compensation
All energy efficiency improvements can generate a direct return on investment.
Sometimes, this can be even more than the original amount.
wallet
Savings that couldn't be taken into account for the purpose of meeting the savings target set forth in Article 8 of the new directive, even though they exist.
profile
In terms of the final energy saving obligations of obligated parties.
leaf
By increasing energy efficiency in Spain.
investmen
Optimizing equipment and/or insulation reduces consumption and costs. Direct savings without compromising on performance.
results
Such as the business productivity and competitiveness that result from investments in energy efficiency.
The party that implements an energy efficiency measure and sells the resulting savings or CAEs on the market, either to an Obligated Party or to a Delegated Party.
A legal entity, previously accredited as such by the National CAE System Coordinator, that acts as an intermediary between the obligated party and the savings owner.
The party that purchases CAEs on the market from savings owners or Delegated Parties to meet its obligations with the National Energy Efficiency Fund.
Intermediary agents, they collect savings for SD and SO.
It checks, reviews, and issues the CAES. This party also issues fines in the event of irregularities.
The CAE Agreement stipulates that the developer transfers the savings resulting from the measure in exchange for payment from the SO or SD with which it signs the agreement, and the SO or SD then becomes the owner of the savings.

If your project is expected to generate more than 5 GWh of annual energy savings, get in touch by using the form on this website or sending an email to caes@moeveglobal.com and describe the type of project you’re going to carry out or have executed. We’ll sign a confidentiality agreement, and once the first step is complete, our engineers or subcontracted engineering firms will contact you to review your energy efficiency projects and determine how to proceed.
No. Certain maintenance activities (for example, cleaning equipment) can also increase energy savings. The important thing is knowing how to justify them and having verifiable data. It’s also important to collect energy data and take photographs before and after performing the activity.
Yes. CAEs are compatible with any grants or subsidies that are not funded by the National Energy Efficiency Fund. The source of funding is explicitly stated in each grant or subsidy program. In general, grants administered by IDAE are not compatible. In those cases, the project will be evaluated to determine which option provides the greatest benefit.
